Delhi police collect Rs 4 lakh from Odd-Even violators
Delhi police authorities collected over Rs 4.06 lakh towards fine for Odd-Even restriction violations. The violators were fined Rs 2000 each.
On the Day I of the Odd-Even restriction, 203 violators were booked. The restrictions are in force from 8 AM to 8 PM and the first violation was reported at 8.33 AM. The commuter said there was no other mode of transport for him and that he had no alternative but to take the car with even number. The traffic police fined 138 persons, while the Delhi Transport Department fined another 65.
The police also fined 76 auto rickshaw drivers for refusing to ferry passengers as per the autorickshaw meter reading. Many commuters who left their even numbered cars tried to take autos, but the autowallahs tried to charge extra. When this was taken to the notice of the people, the auto drivers were booked.
