Dalit students should not be targeted : Kalpana
Hyderabad: YSRCP Deputy Floor leader Uppuleti Kalpana on Tuesday strongly criticised targeting of Dalit students in Universities.
Speaking on Rohit’s suicide, the leader said that suspending students only on the basis of their caste is not tolerable.
She lashed out at the University of Hyderabad administration for the suspension. Kalpana has also requested the government to come to the aid of the dead student's family.
Rohit Vemula – native of Guntur district, a Dalit research scholar of University of Hyderabad (UoH) committed suicide on Sunday evening. He was pursuing his PhD in School of Life Sciences with a CSIR fellowship.
Prior to committing suicide, Rohit is said to have called his mother. Later, suspecting something wrong with Rohit, his mother called his friends. They searched for Rohit and found him hanging in the hostel room.
