Abdullapurmet Tahsildar Set On Fire, Dies

Hyderabad: A lady Tahsildar Vijaya Reddy, who was working in the Abdullapurmet Tahsil office in Ranga Reddy district, died after being set ablaze on Monday. An unidentified person came to the Tahsil office, poured Kerosene on her and set her ablaze. She died on the spot and two people working in the office who tried to save her were also injured and were taken to the hospital.

Polcie say that the person a farmer named named Suresh from Gowrelli village of Hayathnagar Mandal, came to meet the Tahsildar Vijaya Reddy at the office at around 1:30 pm. He and his brother are said to have a pending court case about a pending land problem, and is said to have spoken to her about it more for than half-an-hour. A conversation turned into a massive argument and out anger, he is said to have bolted the door from inside and attacked her. He then poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze. The attacker had also faced 60% burns in the attack.

As per a witness account, a driver tried to break the door open to save her, but the person had already poured petrol on her and set her on afire and left. Vijaya Reddy came out screaming into the main hall while burning in flames.

Two of the staff working there, tried to douse the fire with blankets , but were unsuccessful and she died on the spot.

The person responsible for the crime was also seen with burn injuries and is said to have walked to the police station before collapsing there. He was said to be angry over the delayed registration of his land. Suresh is undergoing treatment in a local hospital.

Minister for Education Sabitha Indira Reddy took serious note of the incident and has ordered for an investigation into the matter. She directed the officials to take strict action against the accused. If there are any issues with government officials , then the matter should be reported to the higher authorities, but this kind of acts are not acceptable and most unfortunate,she said.

Meanwhile tension prevailed in Abdullapurmet as colleagues and leaders of various employee unions staged protests and refused to let the police take the body for post mortem to Osmania General Hospital. Now Her body is being shifted to the Osmania Mortuary.
