Youth Attempts Suicide After Police Interfere In Love Marriage

Gudivada: Variganji Kumar, a resident of Kalvapudi Agraharam in the town, reportedly attempted suicide after getting depressed over the alleged harrassment by local police following a complaint by the parents of Veeranki Shashikala, who tied the knot with the former a few months ago. According to reports, Kumar and Shashikala, who are MBA students, got married at Buddha Samaj in Eluru on March 5, after their parents disagreed for their marriage.

Following the marriage, Shashikala's parents lodged a complaint in the Guduvada Rural Police station, where the police counselled and handed her over to her parents.

SI Lovaraju, CCS Constable Nageshwara Rao and Constable Ramachandra Rao repeatedly threatened Kumar saying he should forget Shashikala, a family member of Kumar said. Depressed over the police threats, Kumar reportedly consumed sleeping tablets on Saturday. He was immediately shifted the local Area Hospital, it is learnt.
