Cop Harasses Wife For Divorce, Woman Approaches Civil Rights Body

Hyderabad: Wife of a police sub-inspector has approached a civil rights body alleging that she was being pressurised by her husband and in-laws to agree for a divorce.

According to the information, victim, identified as Jyothi Reddy, was married to SI Laxma Reddy three years ago. The couple also have a two-year-old son. Laxma Reddy and his parents have been allegedly harassing Jyothi Reddy for the past one year and were asking her to agree for divorce.

At the time of the marriage, Jyothi Reddy's parents gave of Rs 15 lakh and 40 tolas of gold as dowry.

The woman tried to lodge a complaint against her husband and in-laws at Malkajgiri police station, but the police did not initiate any action. She alleged that she was being asked to give divorce so that her husband could marry another woman from a well-to-do family.
