Congress, MIM part ways
Congress and the Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen have parted ways.
The troubled relationship between the two parties ended when the MIM on Tuesday announced its support to the TRS candidate in the election for the post of Chairman of Telangana Legislative Council.
In a retaliatory move, the Congress decided to withdraw its support to the MIM in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). It is even mulling ways to bring in a No Confidence motion against GHMC Mayor Majid Hussain, who is an MIM nominee.
There are 35 members in the council. Of them, TRS has 15 members and Congress 12. MIM has 2 members and there is one member for PDF.
MLC Swami Goud filed his nomination papers for the post of chairman of the council on Tuesday. If necessary, the election for the post will be held on July 2.
Two members of the MIM will now support the ruling TRS in the election.
The TRS now has a strength of 15 members in the council after six Congress MLCs recently joined TRS.
