Chandrababu’s Tour in Anantapur: Lawyers, Farmers Arrested

Anantapur: Following protests from the people demanding Special Category Status and establishment of Andhra Pradesh High Court in Rayalaseema region, the TDP government deployed heavy police personnel in Anantapur district ahead of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's tour to the district.

Lawyers, leaders of people's associations and farmers were taken into preventive custody. The administration feared that protest programmes intensified by the Rayalaseema Bar Association members might show impact on Chandrababu's tour in Anantapur district.

Lawyers in Penukonda, Hindupur and from several locations were arrested by the police. As many as 10 lawyers have been taken into police custody in Yemmiganur town. The arrested advocates accused that the police personnel were troubling them by shifting them from one police station to another.

Meanwhile, YSRCP Penukonda co-ordinator Shankar Narayana has been placed under house arrest. Expressing his ire over the police and the Chief Minister, the YSRCP leader said that Chandrababu is afraid to face of the people and hence stifling dissent voice.

Even farmers have not been spared. As many as 10 farmers were arrested near Ammavaripalli. The farmers have been expressing anger over the district administration for not paying the full compensation for the land they had parted with. Without giving full compensation, the officials are planning to set up car manufacturing unit in the lands, alleged farmers.
