Chakrapani Reddy’s Resignation Puts TDP On A Sticky Wicket
The ruling Telugu Desam Party has found itself in a piquant position. Amid Nandyal bypoll humdrum, strongman Silpa Chakrapani's resignation from the party has rattled them. But, more worrisome is the fact that Chakrapani has resigned from the MLC post also.
This is complete contrast to what Chandrababu Naidu has done when he engineered defections from the YSRCP. As many as 21 MLAs have ditched the YSRCP to join the TDP. But, not one of them resigned. The party too encouraged these immoral defections.
When Chakrapani Reddy wanted to leave TDP and join the YSRCP, party chief YS Jagan told him that he will have to resign the MLC post which he won on the TDP ticket. Chakrapani Reddy submitted his resignation at the Nandyal public meeting.
This has given a moral high ground for the YSRCP. The TDP leaders are now finding it difficult to explain why they are allowing the defectors to continue as MLAs. In fact, minister Bhuma Akhila Priya too is one such legislator who defected but did not resign.
The TDP leaders are now evading questions on defections. In media conferences are they are feeling uncomfortable answering these questions.
