Cauvery Row: Youth Tries to Immolate Self

In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old youth, identified as Suresh, tried to immolate self in protest against ‘injustice’ to Tamil Nadu in Cauvery issue. The incident occurred in Mannargudi and the severely burnt youth is now under treatment.

Suresh was part of the protest being organised by Naam Tamilar Katchi on Thursday. The procession began from Chennai Rajaratnam Stadium and was led by Cheran and Ameer. Even as the rally was on, Suresh tried to set himself on fire. However, his colleagues immediately doused the fires, but by then he was badly burnt. He was rushed to a hospital.
In an apparent fallout of the Cauvery issue, unidentified attackers on Thursday pelted stones at an office of the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), damaging some glass panes.

The incident occurred early in the morning, police said.

The miscreants also left behind pamphlets, slamming the Centre on the Cauvery issue, they said.

In Erode, a textile laden lorry with a Karnataka registration number was set ablaze by two persons near Chitode, 15 km from here, early this morning. The duo fled the scene after the crime.Cauvery
