Bus Inferno: 20 bodies handed over to kin after DNA
The trauma of the families, desperately waiting for the bodies of their kin who were charred to death in Volvo bus mishap at Mahaboobnagar last Wednesday, seems to come to an end, as the police on Monday handed over 20 bodies to bereaved families.
Of the 45 bodies perished in Bus inferno when the bus from Bangalore hit a culvert, three bodies, identified exactly were handed over to their families. When confusion surfaced between some bereaved families over identifying the bodies, as they were burnt beyond recognition, it was decided to handover bodies only after DNA tests. As a consequent, Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratory (APFSL) collected the blood samples from relatives of the deceased and sought a week to submit its report.
After the completion of DNA tests on the first batch of 20 bodies, the officials handed over them to the bereaved families. Rest of the 22 families was remained to continue their long wait to get the bodies at OGH mortuary.
