Brain dead Manikantha defies death, lives on in four persons
Manikantha, 22, may be no more. But, he continues to live on as six organs of his body would be implanted on four persons.
His eyes would give light to a blind person. His lungs will breath live into another person. His heart will beat in a severely debilitated cardiac patient. Two kidneys and liver will also be transplanted into two persons.
Manikantha, a cab driver, was critically injured in a road mishap near Mangalagiri on Wednesday. He was declared brain dead. But, his relatives decided to donate his organs to give life to others.
To take the organs to Chennai, a special air ambulance arrived at Gannavaram airport, 35 km from the hospital. The police converted the route from the NRI Hospital, where the organs were removed, to Gannavaram into a green corridor to give unhindered travel access to the ambulance. Similarly, a green corridor would be created from Chennai airport to Fortis Hospital, where the transplantation will take place.
Significantly, this is the first time that as many organs have been donated this way in the country.
