Vijayawada: The Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP government, which inducted four turncoats in the state cabinet, is finding itself isolated on the issue.

Its ally in Andhra Pradesh, BJP has red flagged the issue and openly voiced its dissent terming the induction as unethical. On Tuesday, party's senior leader and former Union Minister Daggubati Purandeswari has said that once a person leaves a party, he has to resign all the posts that he won on the party symbol. She added that her father NTR had never allowed it. She also wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah demanding that tougher laws be enacted to curb defections.

In another significant comment, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday said that those who shift loyalties must resign the posts and positions that they got from their previous party. He said an act needs to be legislated to ensure that. He also called upon all political parties to come together to fight the scourge of defections. Giving an illustration, Venkaiah Naidu said that during the chief ministership of Yeddyurappa in Karnataka the minority BJP Government had taken leaders from other parties. But, they were all made to resign their existing posts and fight elections, he said and added that other parties too should do this.

These comments assume significance in the light of Telugu Desam Party engineering defections from the YSRCP and making four of them ministers.
