BJP Leader Injured In Eye, Head In Police Lathicharge
A key Bharatiya Janata party functionary from Kerala were seriously injured in his eye and bled profusely whenthe police lathicharged on a group of protesting students.
The students wanted the removal of Kerala Law Academy principal Lakshmi Nair and have been agitating for over 20 days. The Left and other parties also supported the students' demand. The students accused the principal of highhandedness and racial abuse. The BJP has also backed the protests and BJP national executive member V Muraleedharan has been on an indefinite fast for the past one week.
On Wednesday, the BJP backed the students struggle and took out a rally. The police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the BJP-led protesters. In the melee, BJP vice-president Dr PP Vava was injured in the eye and head. He bled profusely and had to be rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Protesting against the police highhandedness, the BJP has called for a bandh and even Congress has threatened to join the protest from Thursday.
Finding that it was outwitted by the BJP, CPI (M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan hit out at the BJP saying that the students had fallen into BJP’s trap.
