Billionaire Businessman Sends Son on Real Life Internship

Kochi: He’s a son of a billionaire, but working like a common man to earn his daily bread in a place far away from his home state. This is not a cinema story, but a real life incident. Dravya Dholakia, 21, hails from Gujarat and worked in small shops and restaurants in Kerala. He has done this experiment to learn hardships in the life at the behest of his father’s advice.

Dravya reached Kerala and started searching for a job, but couldn’t succeed for the first four days. Though he made attempts consulting over 60 shops and restaurants. He was turned down as people were reluctant to employing strangers.

Dravya began his internship in real life experience on June 21 and completed one month successfully. He earned about Rs4,000 and returned home on Tuesday. He is a student of BBA in the US.

While recalling his experiences in Kerala, Dravya said: “This made me realize about what’s life. I used to spend Rs40 on meals and Rs250 on staying at a lodge.”

Dravya Dholakia’s father, Savji Dholakia, is the chairman of Hari Krishna Exports. Savji Dholakia had asked his son Dravya to live like a common man in an unknown place for one month without revealing his identity and another condition that barred him from using phone. Senior Dholakia gave him just Rs7,000 on a condition of using it in emergency situation only.

Dravya reached Kerala and got job on fifth day of searching. He first joined in a bakery, then call center, footwear shop and McDonald’s outlet so on. This real life incident should be adopted by all the parents so that sons can realize the hardships and equip themselves to come over the challenges in the life and career.

Surat-based Dholakia family is engaged in diamond business, which has an annual turnover of over Rs1,025 crore and employing over 6,000 persons.

With a handful of wonderful memories of God’s Own Country, the young diamond merchant will be flying to New York on August 5 to pursue his BBA course at Pace University.

“I got support from Keralites, though I was a total stranger here. They helped me find job. I wish my experience should be an inspiration to all those who toil,” concludes Dravya.

The Dholakia family was in the news recently for gifting flats and cars to their staff. Dholakia family has gifted 200 double bed-room flats to the employees and 491 Fiat cars as well. The diamond business is spread over 71 countries.
