Attention Diversion Gang Nabbed, Phones Worth Rs.25 Lakh Seized
Hyderabad: Central Zone police arrested an inter-state attention diversion gang on Thursday and 65 phones worth Rs 25 lakh were seized from their possession.
Police arrested five members Mohammed Imran Qureshi, Sharukh Bendri Pathan, Farhan Pathan, Mohammed Nayeem, Anas Quareshi, all from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.
Reddy said that in order to avoid being traced the gang used to sell mobile phones in Nepal.
“The offenders check into budget hotels and introduce themselves as band troupe and carry equipment to avoid suspicion. For operating the offense the gang used to split into two groups,” said VB Kamalasan Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Zone.
The gang used to look for people traveling alone in car and keep mobile in the side seat. While one of them would pick up an argument alleging that due to rash driving he got injured, his associate would steal the phone and then the duo would flee from the place.
Reddy said that in order to avoid being traced the gang used to sell mobile phones in Nepal. The accused during interrogation confessed that similar gangs are operating in Mumbai and Bengaluru as well.
