APCC chief accepts defeat in municipal elections - Sakshi Post

Andhra Pradesh PCC chief Raghuveera Reddy and Telangana PCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah presented contrasting picture on Tuesday.

While Ponnala appears ebullient, Raghuveera was sullen, sunk and sagged. The Congress, which did well in Telangana, fared poorly in Andhra Pradesh.

Accepting defeat, Raghuveera said that Congress Party could not win even a single municipality in the state and added that only in a couple of civic bodies, where no party secured absolute majority, the party would be of some consequence.

"We have to re-build the party from the grassroots level," he said.

After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the Congress Party has been completely marginalised in the Rayalaseema and the coastal Andhra regions.

Due to this, the party suffered heavily in the municipal elections. It couldn't even open its account at several places.
