Polavaram Project Lacks Transparency: NMC

Polavaram Project Lacks Transparency: NMC - Sakshi Post

New Delhi: The National Monitoring Committee (NMC) had ordered the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to review the rehabilitation cases of the Polavaram Project on Monday, October 14.

The National Monitoring Committee expressed that there is a lack of transparency in the Polavaram project and opined that human rights are being violated in the construction of the national project.

According to reports, one Pentapati Pullarao complained to NHRC in 2013 on the then ruling Party Telugu Desam (TDP) led by former Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu as they had forcibly evacuated people from their villages, without giving any compensation for rehabilitation. NHRC has taken up the complaint and ordered NMC to inquire about the case and look to that all the people affected by the Polavaram project should get compensation.

NHRC has suggested NMC to re-open the closed cases on rehabilitation in the past. Recently, the Delhi High Court has directed the Ministry of Power and Energy to investigate the irregularities in the construction of the national project and take appropriate action to provide compensation to victims of rehabilitation cases.
