Wind, Solar Power Generation Has Not Stopped: Secretary For Energy Department
Amaravati: Secretary for Energy Department N Sreekanth denied that DISCOMS have stopped power from the wind or solar power generators. “The wind was not blowing properly and the sun was not shining well for the last 10 days. Therefore, power generation from wind/solar was not sufficient to meet the load during peak hours” he said.
For the past 10 days, 3000 MW of solar power had to be produced and only 815 MW was generated in just one day and there were also cases where the minimum of 28 MW is generated in a day.
The Electricity department dismissed the allegations that the Government doesn’t have an idea on coal reserves and told that they have stored more coal compared to last year. “The coal reserves in the thermal power plants under Andhra Pradesh Genco as of September 30, 2018, are 29,543 metric tons and coal reserves on September 30, 2019, were 46,486 metric tons and it’s because of planning we are able to have additional 16,000 coal reserves,” said the Secretary.
“Because of these additional coal reserves, we are able to generate more electricity compared to June, July and August months of 2018 and these excess reserves helped in crucial times during major disruptions in the coal supply. We paid 120 crores to KSK thermal centre and importing 8 rakes of coal for the next seven days from Singerani” he added.
