November 14, 15: Heavy rain alert for Andhra Pradesh; Holidays for schools likely
A low-pressure system has formed over the Bay of Bengal with its center lying between South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and North Tamil Nadu. "The weather system would likely bring heavy to moderate rainfall across the region during Thursday and Friday, according to the IMD," says an official.
The IMD has sounded an alert that heavy rain will be expected in Chittoor, Annamayya, Nellore, and Bapatla districts on Wednesday and continue on November 14 and 15. "People in low-lying areas need to be cautious," it said and requested the government to take sufficient measures to evacuate them to safer zones if necessary.
Farming families in the region are worried that their crops, especially paddy, which is now under harvest, would be exposed to heavy damage. This will result in a considerable loss. The peasants are eagerly selling the crop.
This is the last of the low-pressure systems formed in the Bay of Bengal this year. Andhra Pradesh has already experienced heavy rain along the coast, whereas the districts of Rayalaseema have experienced relatively lesser amounts of rainfall.
Heavy rain forecast and school-college holiday. The schools and colleges in the districts may declare holidays on November 14 and 15 since heavy rain is to be experienced. Holidays may be announced by the Andhra Pradesh government for the respective government offices and institutions.
Districts That May be Impacted:
