NDRF Rescues Pregnant Woman From Marooned Village In Velerupadu West Godavari

Hyderabad: A pregnant woman trapped in flood waters in a village on Monday was rescued by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel.

S. Santa Kumari, from Koheda village, Velerupadu mandal in West Godavari district, along with her husband, S. Posh Reddy, and other family members, were evacuated from the village.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel, under the supervision of company commander Shilendra Umrao undertook the rescue operation.

“The NDRF team brought her to the safe place travelling 16 km by boat, and later the district officials shifted her to hospital,” NDRF 10th Battalion Commandant Zahid Khan was quoted saying by a leading daily.

In another incident, five women trapped in flooded Yaragodi village in Karnataka were evacuated.

On Saturday, teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were deployed in Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari and West Godavari districts due to a steady rise in the water levels in Godavari river.

Two teams each with 120 NDRF personnel have been positioned in the two districts to carry out rescue and relief operations.

Three SDRF teams with 124 men have been deployed in East Godavari and one with 34 personnel in West Godavari, according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).

Fire service personnel have also been roped in for rescue and relief operations.
