Moderate to heavy rain forecasted for several districts including Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Guntur, and Nellore.
Warning signal number three hoisted at key ports like Visakhapatnam and Kakinada.
Fishermen advised not to venture into the sea due to strong winds reaching up to 55 km/h.
Coastal Andhra Pradesh is bracing for heavy rainfall over the next two days due to a well-marked low-pressure area over the Southwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Weather Forecast:
The low-pressure system is expected to move towards the southwest Bay of Bengal, near the north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts, by Tuesday. However, meteorologists remain uncertain about whether the system will intensify further or weaken in the coming hours.
The IMD bulletin forecasts light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, at several locations across coastal Andhra Pradesh between December 24 and 26. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in isolated areas during this period. Rayalaseema is also likely to experience similar conditions on December 24 and 25.
Districts Likely to Be Affected:
Moderate to heavy rain is expected at isolated locations in the following districts:
Coastal Andhra Pradesh: Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, and Nellore.
Rayalaseema: Light to moderate rain is likely in YSR Kadapa, Annamayya, Chittoor, and Tirupati districts.
Advisory for Fishermen:
With strong winds reaching speeds of up to 55 km/h predicted along the coast, authorities have issued a warning to fishermen, advising them to avoid venturing into the sea until Wednesday. Warning signal number three has been hoisted at ports including Kalingapatnam, Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram, Kakinada, Machilipatnam, Nizampatnam, and Krishnapatnam.
Preparedness Measures:
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has urged residents to remain vigilant in light of the forecast. Collectors in coastal districts have instructed officials to implement precautionary measures to prevent loss of life and minimize damage. Special attention is being given to low-lying areas, where authorities are maintaining a close watch.
The cloudy skies and cold winds currently prevailing in the coastal region signal the onset of the system’s impact. Residents are advised to stay updated with weather bulletins and follow official guidelines for safety.
