Fear, Family Pressure Forces Overstaying Telugu Students To Return Home From US
Hyderabad: Almost 20 students hailing from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, in the United States, came back to India on Monday. They have supposedly surpassed their visa time.
These students came back to India because of fear and pressure from their own families. These are not among those 600 under the scanner of the US Homeland Security involved in the fake university scam. They are the first batch to return to India even prior to the February 5 deadline ordered by the US for illegal immigrants.
It is learned that their student visa, H1-B or Optional Practical Training had lapsed. As of now no Indian has been sent back from the US, nor was sent any notice to leave the country.
A Large number of students have been detained by the US Immigration Customs and Enforcement, they shall receive a voluntary departure letter issued by the immigration judge.
“Students whose visas are still active have been advised by the Indian Embassy to remain in the US and the required consular help has been provided.” A senior officer with the ministry of external affairs told an English daily.
TRS party has even come up with helpline numbers according to the states for Telugu students in the US.
