In This West Godavari Village, Women Can’t Wear Nightwear During The Day

West Godavari: In the village of Tokalapalli, West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, women are not allowed to wear nighties during the day. The village elders have taken the decision to set a time period for women to be seen in night wear. It is learned that woman should not wear nighties from 7 am to 7 pm and if those violating the rule will be imposed a fine of Rs 2000. The person who informs village elders about this will get a prize money of Rs 1000.

The money which is collected through fines will be used for the village development which has a population of 36,000 people and 11,000 families, as per reports. When the reports surfaced in local media, village MRO Sundar Raju and SI Vijay Kumar visited the area and intervened but much to their surprise, no one came forward to object to the decision.

While speaking to the media, a woman said "There is no such rule on nighties, it's just a rumour. In fact, the village women have taken a decision not to wear nighties during the day. It was us who informed the village elders who then gave a specific time to wear nightdress. But collecting the fines from women is just a rumour."

Another woman Krishna Kumari said that they were happy with the decision taken by all the women in the village. "We all took a joint decision with respect to the rule," she added.
