Visakhapatnam Swine Flu Toll Goes Up
Visakhapatnam: The toll for Swine flu this season has gone up to four people, with two more losing their lives to the disease in the local Government Hospital for Chest and Infectious Diseases, in the last two days.
A man from Anakapalle succumbed to the disease on Wednesday, while another individual from Eluru succumbed on Tuesday, as per sources.
Both of them who lost their lives were first admitted to King George Hospital but were later shifted to Government Hospital for Chest and Infectious Diseases. On further enquiries, he said seven people were admitted to the Infectious diseases ward.
District collector Pravin Kumar has directed the government doctors to provide immediate healthcare services to the individuals infected with the swine flu virus. He also said KGH doctors not to refer the patients to GHCID as it lacked adequate sufficient staff and basic amenities. He also ordered for the purchase of vaccines from the market.
The vaccines were not with in the reach of the doctors and nurses at the GHCID as of now. The hospital is also facing a staff shortage and employees of government hospital on duty are scared of getting infected and are not attending to patients. However another official from the hospital said” the individuals who passed away had other ailments too."
DMHO Dr Tirupathi Rao said, “We have established screening camps at all 12 centres in the district and the necessary medicines have also been provided to all government hospitals.”
