Palasa MLA Mediates Successfully To Get Cashewnut Units Opened
Kasibugga, Srikakulam: YSRCP MLA from Palasa, Dr. Sidiri Appalaraju successfully prevailed upon cashew nut industries to open the units which had been closed for a week. The cashewnut industries had shut down following non-payment of the promised 12% hike to workers in them as as per an agreement with the managements. The MLA met the management representatives and workers on Tuesday to resolve the issue.
The workers' representatives told the MLA that their two-year old agreement had not been acted upon by the managements. Hence, they had to resort to a lock-out, they clarified. They urged the MLA to bring the managements around on this issue and ensure that the 12% hike was put in place. The owners should give up their stubborn position, they said.
The managements, on the other hand, said that Cyclone Titli had created a major crisis for them and sought more time. Dr. Sidiri Appalaraju urged the workers to resume their duties and ensure that processing work in the units continues unhindered. He also assured the workers of getting the agreement signed by managements in a week.
The managements and workers agreed to the Palasa MLA's advice and over 300 cashew nut units in the area were reopened.
