YS Jagan’s Presence At Modi’s Oath To Be More Than A Photo-op
Vijayawada: After taking the oath of office as chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will fly to the national capital along with Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao from Vijayawada to attend the swearing-in ceremony of prime minister-elect Narendra Modi.
Both YS Jagan and KCR will board the same aircraft from Vijayawada after the former’s swearing-in at the local Indira Gandhi Stadium at 12:23 PM on Thursday. Modi is scheduled to take his oath at 7 PM on the same day.
YS Jagan and KCR share a cheerful bonhomie which came to fore when the former visited KCR to extend an invitation to attend his swearing-in. Both leaders promised to cooperate on all interstate issues and to find new avenues for the development of Telugu states. The effectively conveyed that the atmosphere of bickering and acrimony that persisted between Telugu states under former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is now forgotten history.
The presence of YS Jagan and KCR at Modi’s swearing-in is more than just that of a courtesy and a formality. As both leaders, particularly YS Jagan, wants to maintain a cordial relationship with the NDA government to ensure that their States don’t suffer due to any animosity engendered by political differences.
YS Jagan had, indeed, pointed out that his government in Andhra Pradesh would continuously prevail upon the national government under Narendra Modi until Special Status is granted. In a rare demonstration of candour, YS Jagan had also said he prayed for a hung parliament so that his government got negotiating power for securing Special Status from the Centre. YS Jagan attendance at Modi’s swearing-in is certainly a pointer as to which direction the relationship between two governments head in the days to come.
