Harassed Farmer Vows to Fight Back “Incompetent” Government
Vijayawada: Capital farmer Meera Prasad, who has been protesting the forcible acquisition of his land, accused the TDP government of “deceiving” farmers in the name of land pooling.
Speaking to press persons here on Sunday, he alleged that the government officers were accepting bribes and making all out efforts to change his land records to forcibly acquire his land. “I have 33 acres. They (the government officials) are harassing me and fudging my passbooks. Despite telling that I have an order from the court, their harassment is continuing,” the victim said.
Announcing that he wouldn’t be daunted by police highhandedness, Meera Prasad breathed fire against the TDP government: “This is an incompetent government. I have been trying to save my land from last four years. But they have swooped to deplorable levels to lay the road from my field without my consent. I will fight back. They (the TDP government) have waited until the elections concluded and are now staging this drama.”
Police and government officials on Saturday descended on Meera Prasad’s agricultural land and attempted to lay a road through it. Despite showing the officials that he has an order from the court, police and officials continued with their highhandedness. When he tried to resist their attempts, he was mercilessly dragged out by police. In the melee, he suffered injuries and fell ill. The farmer came out on bail after he was arrested.
