Profile: Rajam Constituency In Srikakulam

Rajam Constituency - Sakshi Post

Rajam is one of the constituencies in the backward district of Srikakulam which is being seen as a likely scene of a keenly contested election. The sitting MLA, Kambala Jogulu of the YSR Congress Party is popular among the people of the region.

He is known to have represented the issues being faced by the masses and even faced arrest while staging a protest demanding Special Category Status for AP. The ruling TDP decided to field former Congress MLA, Kondru Murali from this constituency.

Rajam (SC) Assembly constituency is among the 10 seats in the district and is represented by the Kambala Jogulu from the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). It is a part of Vizianagaram Lok Sabha constituency. In 2009, interestingly enough, Kondru Murali Mohan from the Congress party represented this constituency.

Rajam, like many of the other areas in the district, is hit by the problem of migrations--local small farmers have had to leave their villages in large numbers in search of livelihood.

Some have had to migrate to distant places. A major water crisis stalks Srikakulam, even as cyclones like Titli batter the coastal belt in the region. Kidney ailments are also rampant in the area.

As things stand YSRCP has a clear edge in Rajam.
