AP Police Abandon Probe Into Attack On YS Jagan’s Life?
Visakhapatnam: The Special Investigation Team's (SIT) probe into the murder attempt on Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Assembly and YSR Congress party (YSRCP) YS Jagan Mohan Reddy appeared to have been shelved by the AP Police after much hype and drama during the six-day trial in the aftermath of the attack. Owing to pressure from bigwigs in the State government, the police officials seemed to have to resorted to diverting the case. Quite evidently, the SIT ignored the conspiracy behind the attack in a deliberate attempt. In all likelihood, the SIT is moving the case in the direction of gradually scrapping it eventually, as per Chandrababu's word.
It may be recalled that the investigation was restricted to the prime accused in the case, Janupalli Srinivasa Rao, up to two weeks after the incident. Although it is apparent that the attacker couldn't have carried out the attack without support from highly placed people, the police seem to be disinterested in digging the real conspirators behind the murder attempt.
According to law experts, there is a good chance of extracting the truth from Harshavardhan Prasad Choudhary, owner of Fusion Foods in the airport, where Srinivasa Rao was working, if questioned in a comprehensive manner. However, the police appear to be washing their hands off with a brief session of casual questions with the TDP leader. Who supported the restaurant owner in leading the attack? Who funded the murder attempt? What was found in his call data? Clearly, SIT is reponsible for failing to expose the truth behind the attack.
SIT Slows Down Pace In Investigation
As soon as Srinivasa Rao's police custody ended, the police officials appeared to have slowed down the pace of the investigation. While the administrative work in the SIT office was diluted, the interrogation excercise had no progress after the six-day police custody of the attacker, it is learnt. Superintendent of the SIT, DCP Nayeem was nowhere to be seen in the office in the recent times. On the other side, SIT officer, ACP Nageshwar Rao is busy making a sealed cover report to be submitted in the Court.
As per insider information from the police department, there was no attempt in the direction of collecting information on the attacker's case history. "No progress has been made in the investigation in the last few days," revealed an official. Coincidentally, the case was shelved following Chandrababu's recent visit to the Visakhapatnam airport.
