Abducted child rescued; two held
A two-and-half year old boy kidnapped from the city on November 2 for ransom was rescued and his abductors, including a woman, were arrested from West Bengal, police said today.
Accused Ramprasad Mistry and Priyanka Halder, both natives of 24 Parganas South district, were nabbed by a special team of Hyderabad police on November 9 from Dumki village and the child Aakash was safely rescued, they said.
The child's father, Gopal Maji, a goldsmith residing in Recobgunj area under Charminar police station limits, had on November 2 lodged a complaint with police stating that his elder sister's son-in-law Ramprasad Mistry took away his son on the pretext of buying fire crackers for him and did not return home. While the investigation into the case was on, the accused called up the complainant and demanded a ransom of 3 kgs of gold to release the kidnapped boy, police said.
Subsequently, Mistry and Priyanka were apprehended by Hyderabad police. During interrogation, the prime accused Ramprasad confessed that he had earlier worked as a gold smith at the complainant's workshop for one year but was sacked from the job owing to his vices after which he left for Kolkata, they said.
The duo were brought on transit warrant to Hyderabad and being produced before a local court for the commission of offence of kidnap for ransom, wrongfully confining the kidnapped boy, putting the person in fear of death with criminal conspiracy under relevant sections of IPC, police added.
