Hyderabad: A device that can put an end to drunken driving nuance was kept on display on the occasion of Convocation at the Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) during the President Pranab Mukherjee visit in the city on Saturday.

The innovative device was designed by Capt Karan Goswami, Capt Rajeet Bhambhu and Capt Kshitij Mishra, the device termed as DADD (Device Against Drunken Driving) will not start the engine if the driver is found to be intoxicated. The cost for developing this device was merely Rs 36,800.

DADD has a micro controller , GSM module, voltage controller, a buzzer and an alcohol sensor. According to the developers, when an intoxicated person sits in the car fitted with the device, the device will automatically asks the driver to take the alcohol level test, if the alcohol level is above the permitted level then the device will not allow the engine to start.

The president was attending the convocation ceremony of 96th Degree Engineering and 24th Technical Entry Scheme courses and stated in his speech that “Technology is undergoing a constant change with new concepts being introduced".
