5 Woman Farmhands Killed As Lorry Rams Into Auto

In a shocking road mishap, five woman daily wagers were killed and 10 others were injured when the autorickshaw they were traveling in was hit by a lorry from behind. The incident occurred on the outskirts of Avuladatla village of Rayadurgam mandal in Anantapur district on Wednesday morning.

The women were all going for farm work in an auto. The speeding lorry came from behind and rammed into the auto. Three farmhands - Vannuramma, Vannurakka and Durga - died on the spot, while two more died on way to hospital. The injured were rushed to the Rayadurgam Government Hospital.

On knowing about the incident the police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem. The lorry driver has since been arrested. The police said the auto was overloaded with passengers and this could have slowed down the vehicle causing it to be hit by the speeding lorry.
