Five persons, two of them brothers, were on Wednesday arrested in connection with the theft of 4-kg gold and cash of Rs 25 lakh from a house in the Tadbund area here, police said.

Theft of cash of about Rs 25 lakh and gold biscuits and ornaments weighing about 4-kg, amounting altogether to an estimated Rs 1.37 crore, was reported by one Ajay Harinath at the Bowenpally police station. The complainant had said that the theft had taken place while he had been away along with his family members during November and December, 2014. Harinath had said that he suspected his driver and watchman to be behind the crime. Based on credible information, a police team early this morning raided the house of Harinath's driver Mohd Tahsin Ali and apprehended him along with his brother Mohd Mohsin Ali. Upon questioning, the duo confessed to their crime even as another accused, Shaik Mohd Aslamullah, who had assisted them in disposing of the stolen valuables, too, was apprehended, police said. Two others, Nemichand Jain and Akshay Jain, who had received, or bought, the stolen property were also arrested, police added. The watchman, Khadeer, is absconding, they said. Gold biscuits weighing 2.3-kg and 150-gm gold ornaments, besides Rs 12.7 lakh cash, collectively worth Rs 1.25 crore, were recovered from the accused. According to a City Police release, Tahsin had been driven by financial problems into committing the theft at his employer's house. He had used duplicate keys for the purpose on three occasions during November-December last year, police added. With the stolen cash, the accused were said to have purchased four four-wheelers and two bikes. They also gave Rs 5 lakh to Khadeer, police added
