New Delhi: In a suspected case of human trafficking, an airport staffer, along with a man and a woman, posing as a couple, were apprehended on Friday at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here, after the couple's bid to travel to Canada allegedly by using fake papers failed.

Officials said the incident was reported at about 2 AM at the terminal-III of the airport when on-duty CISF personnel were informed by a Swiss airline that two passengers have been offloaded for allegedly possessing fake passport and visa as they were trying to travel to Toronto via Zurich.

The fliers have been identified as P Kanu Bhai (42) and P Chandrika (35) from Ahmedabad. They said the duo, after questioning, told CISF that they were provided the alleged forged documents to travel to Toronto for employment by an agent who travelled with them from Ahmedabad and saw them off at the airport.

They were assured of employment in Canada once they reached there and were told to act as a couple. On further enquiry, it was revealed that the duo was issued boarding passes in a fraudulent manner by an unauthorised ground handling agent. The said agent and the duo have been handed over to the police for further investigation, they said.

It appears to be a possible case of human trafficking, they added.
