2 charred to death as Hyd-Sholapur passenger train catches fire
Two passengers were charred to death and at least seven sustained grievous injuries when two bogies of the Hyderabad-Sholapur passenger train caught fire at Gulbarga railway station in Karnataka this afternoon.
The number of casualties may go up, sources said.
Two coaches of the train went into flames at around 2 pm and the reason for the fire accident is not immediately known but sources, however, attributed the fire to some passengers cooking food inside the compartments.
The train was on its way from Hyderabad to Sholapur when teh accident took place. It is not immediately known whether any passengers from Hyderabad are among the victims. Passengers in other bogies were immediately rushed to the waiting room in Gulbarga station.
Railway officials said the fire was brought under control as the train was stationary when the fire broke out. Details of the accident are awaited.
