The Central Government has formally approved the laying of a 185 km long ring road around the proposed AP capital. In addition, the Centre has also announced that 800 km long state roads would be converted into national highways. An amount of Rs 1000 crore would be allocated for the works.

According to sources, the Centre has also accorded permission to link NG 44 with NG 65 to improve the connectivity to Amaravathi from Anantapur via Kurnool. Similarly, Kadapa, Kurnool and Anantapur would be connected by linking NG 40 and NG 60. The current four-lane roads would be upgraded to six or eight names. The process would begin soon after the AP government completes the land acquisition process.
