12 lakh houses for weaker sections:Minister

Andhra Pradesh government has said that over 12 lakh houses are being constructed for the weaker sections in the state.

They are in various stages of completion. Our main objective is to create the state that will be free of thatched dwellings. With this objective, we are building six lakh houses in cities and six lakh others in villages for the benefit of weaker sections, and these houses are in various stages of completion, the minister of state for Housing N Uttam Kumar Reddy said yesterday.

He spoke to reporters after inaugurating Rajiv Gruha Housing Complex at Pithapuram Mandal of East Godavari district. The state government has allocated Rs 3000 crore for housing sector out of which Rs 1000 crore will be spent for construction of houses in towns, Rs 300 crore for land acquisition and Rs 250 crore for infrastructure facilities. We have also assigned powers to district collectors to decentralise Housing department for expediting various schemes, he said, adding an online system is being implemented to prevent irregularities, he added.
