Undertrail Prisoner Dies In Hospital, Family Alleges Police Harassment
Karimnagar: An undertrail prisoner from Bavupet died at a government hospital in the town while undergoing treatment on Thursday night.
K. Venkatesh (26) was an accused in five theft cases in Gambiraopet. The police arrested him a month ago and produced him before the court on June 13. He was then sent for remand where his health deteriorated and was admitted to the hospital on July 26. He died while undergoing treatment.
Venkatesh's wife Renuka along with other family members staged a protest before the hospital on Friday alleging that Venkatesh succumbed to injuries due to police torture. "I have been to Yellareddy police station several times asking about my husband's whereabouts but the police haven't shown him," she alleged. "My husband told me that the police have given him current shocks to confess the crime," she wailed.
On the other hand the police claimed the death of Venkatesh was due to Jaundice.
Karimnagar RDO Raja Goud ordered a probe into his death. He told the family members to wait for the post-mortem report.
