Engineer Sets Himself On Fire After Making Own Pyre

Bengaluru: An engineer, who came out on a bail while undergoing jail term over corruption, arranged a funeral pyre and then set himself on fire at Kolar on Wednesday.

According to the police, Srinath Reddy(27) had worked as an assistant engineer in the Employment Guarantee Scheme. He was caught red-handed by Lokayukta while taking bribe from a farmer six months ago and was sent to jail. After coming out on bail, Srinath slipped into depression and was confined to a room as he also lost his job.

On Tuesday, when everyone was asleep, Srinath build a pyre and set himself ablaze on it. The incident shocked the family members and neighbors when the saw the pyre on Wednesday morning. "Srinath quarreled with his mother last night," a neighbor told the police.

Srinath was staying with his mother after his father died few years ago. He joined in the job last year.
