YS Sharmila Joins Congress: Here is what she said

Ending months of speculation, YSR Telangana Party president Sharmila has officially merged the political party into the Congress. She joined the Congress party in the presence of Rahul Gandhi and party national president Mallikarjuna Kharge. She along with her husband Anil came to the AICC headquarters in Delhi and addressed the media.

Speaking to the media, Sharmila said, "From today, YSRTP is a part of Congress. Congress is the largest secular party in the country and it does justice to all sections of the country. I'm very happy to join the Congress party. It was my father late YSR's dream to see Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister of the country. His Bharat Jodo yatra has made a huge impact. Due to this, Congress came to power in Karnataka and Telangana states. I'm also motivated by Rahul Ji's yatra. YSRTP didn't contest in Telangana so as not to split the anti-KCR vote. Whatever the responsibility given to me in the Congress party, I'd be happy to take up and do my best."

Sharmila floated the YSRTP party on July 8, 2021. She did a long padayatra from Chevella in October 2021. Finally, she merged the party today (January 4, 2024) in the Congress. Many leaders from Telugu states attended Sharmila's joining programme.
