An audio clip of Nara Bhuvaneswari, wife of TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, is going viral on social media. In the audio clip, Bhuvaneswari can be heard making derogatory remarks and using unparliamentary language against the dalit employees.

The incident has sparked an outrage on social media with many condemning the casteist remarks allegedly made by Bhuvaneswari. She also allegedly used casteist slurs against Dalits which cannot be reproduced here.

Meanwhile, Misinformation Combat Alliance (MCA), an initiative which is debunking misinformation and spreading literacy about the fake news among the people, picked up the leaked audio clip of Bhuvaneswari posted on @YSJaganTrends X (formerly Twitter) account and asked its Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU) to analyse and investigate it.

After the preliminary investigation, the DAU escalated the viral audio clip to Dr Hany Farid, an expert in digital forensics. Farid’s forensic lab thoroughly investigated the audio clip using the automated and manual forensic techniques to analyse the audio content. They concluded that no Generative AI (artificial intelligence technology) was used in the creation of the audio. Dr Farid’s team also pointed out that they used the expertise of a native Telugu speaker to analyse the audio content.

The DAU also reached out to its other partner ContrailsAI which confirmed that no GenAI was involved in making this viral audio. They stated that the audio clones will not match the texture of the voice in the viral audio and therefore concluded that the audio was mostly real and not a deepfake.
