Zoo Park Closed Today Due Water Logging After Heavy Downpour

Due to heavy downpour for two consecutive days the park is closed for visitors - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: With the rain water gushing into Nehru Zoological Park due to heavy downpour for two consecutive days, the park is closed for visitors on Friday.

The rains caused Mir Alam tank water to gush into animal enclosures due to which the visitors had to cut short their tour as authorities closed the Zoo Park on Thursday.

“Herbivores animals like Deer, Black Bucks, Cheetal and others are most susceptible to infections due to inundation hence proper precautions are to be taken,” said an official.

To ensure that animals are safe the officials are treating the drinking water and animal’s feed with antibiotics.

A similar ordeal was witness in 1983 and the officials are concerned that if the water level rises in the enclosure, the animals that can swim might try to climb the fence and escape and there are chances that the animals might drink the dirty water.

“The flooding of moats will bring back the Tilapia fish that is known to carry diseases so we want to take up some work to drain out the flood water,” said Shivani Dogra, zoo curator.

GHMC officials have been approached by the officials to help them channelize excess water by opening up some outlets of the Mir Alam tank.
