YV Subba Reddy Writes To Modi, Demands Rs 20 lakh Ex-Gratia To Boat Mishap Victims
Ongole MP and senior YSRCP leader YV Subba Reddy demanded that the Government give Rs 20 lakh towards ex-gratia to the kin of those who were killed in the tragic boat capsize in Krishna River on Sunday (November 12, 2017). In a letter written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, YV Subba Reddy said that Andhra Pradesh Government's acts of omission and commission were largely responsible for the mishap. He pointed out that the boat was unauthorised and unlicensed. Yet, it was allowed to carry passengers. He said the tragedy mirrored the ineptness of the TDP government.
He said the ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh announced by the Andhra Pradesh chief minister was not sufficient and wanted it to be hiked to Rs 20 lakh.
As many as 32 members of the Ongole Walkers' Club were on board. The deceased include three relatives of Communist Party of India (CPI) national secretary K. Narayana, a relative each of Director General of Police Sambasiva Rao and intelligence official Rama Rao. The private boat was travelling from Bhavani Island to Pavitra Sangamam at the time of the incident. The boat, which had 38 people on board, overturned when trying to manoeuvre towards Pavitra Sangamam after leaving the ferry.
On November 15, YV Subba Reddy organised a candle rally in Ongole in memory of those who met a watery grave in the tragic mishap.
