YSRCP flays TDP on panels

YSR Congress has criticized the TDP government for issuing GOs to authenticate the committees to take over the local administration overriding the election representatives and has sought the Governor’s intervention to stall the undemocratic process.

Speaking to media Party spokesperson Tammineni Sitaram said: “the state has issued three GOs which authorize committees to take decisions ignoring sarpanches and other elected local bodies members. The committees are filled with TDP cadre with questionable credentials and not a single voluntary organization is involved.
The institution of revenue department is being mocked at with the GOs. Right from Collector to Village Officer no one has the decision making power and only the committee members are ruling the roost. The decentralization of administration and devolution of 29 subjects directly to the panchyats has lost its meaning and the very purpose of amendment to the PR Act is mocked.”
To cite an example in East Godavari district Rs 500 crores was collected as land cess and there is no accountability for it.
“We reiterate that a GO cannot change the provisions of the PR Act and committees cannot take over governance from administrative machinery and elected representatives. We have moved court on the issue and such moves will only kill the spirit of democracy and the committees will function as extra constitutional forces.
We will not allow this to happen and appeal to the Governor to intervene to sort out the issue,” he said.
