YSRCP candidate Akhila Priya elected unopposed

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) candidate Bhuma Akhila Priya has been declared unopposed to the Andhra Pradesh assembly from Allagadda constituency in Kurnool district.

The Election Commission declared her elected without contest as both the independents withdrew their nominations on Friday, the last day of withdrawal of nominations. The election was scheduled for Nov 8.

The ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the Congress and other parties had not fielded their candidates in response to a request by YSRCP.

Akhila Priya is the daughter of Bhuma Sobha Nagi Reddy, who died in a road accident days before the elections in May.

The election was not countermanded as the YSR Congress is not a recognised party.

As the deceased candidate won the election in May, the poll panel decided to conduct the by-poll.

The TDP did not field its candidate to reciprocate the gesture of the YSRCP which did not contest the Nandigama assembly seat last month. The by-election was held following the death of the sitting TDP legislator.
