YSRCP, now recognized as a regional party
Election Commission of India (ECI) has recognized YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) of Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy as a regional party. With this YSRCP became the third recognized regional party in Andhra Pradesh.
The EC gave recognition to YSRCP based on the votes the party got in the recent elections.
In orders (No.56/review/2013/PPS-2) issued by EC on Monday, it gave recognition to the party, which is so far only a registered party.
“YSRCP has completed all formalities stipulated by EC. So, we gave the party the status of a recognized party,” said Pramod Kumar Sharma, Under Secretary of ECI, in his orders.
The commission also announced that it allotted fan symbol to YSRCP.
Till now, there are only two regional parties (Telugu Desam Party, Telangana Rashtra Samiti) in the state. Now YSRCP joined the list as the third one.
However, the state election commission has to give the formal recognition to YSRCP.
As per the formalities, YSRCP has to apply to state election commission to get it recognised. So, YSRCP leaders will meet the officials in Hyderabad to apply for the same.
With this, the anti defection law applies to YSRCP too and any MP or MLA can be disqualified if he or she changes a party.
