YSR Congress MLA Roja Moves Supreme Court on Suspension
New Delhi: YSR Congress MLA R.K. Roja on Tuesday moved the Supreme Court challenging her suspension from the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.Speaker K. Sivaprasad suspended the MLA from the Assembly for a year on December 18 for allegedly making "unparliamentary" remarks against chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Roja's counsel senior advocate Indira Jaising requested a bench headed by Chief Justice T.S. Thakur for an urgent hearing in view of the need for her participation in the ongoing budget session of AP Assembly. However, the court listed the cases for further hearing to decide on the matter to examine the reasons for her suspension.
Roja in her petition said the maximum period for which an MLA could be suspended under the relevant rule was till the remainder of the session of the House, which was completed on December 22. She submitted that she was suspended arbitrarily by a voice vote.
The case may come up for hearing on Friday or Monday.
