YS Jagan To Be In Dharmavaram On Tuesday, To Express Solidarity With Handloom Weavers On Deeksha

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy - Sakshi Post

YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will tour Dharmavaram area on Tuesday to meet handloom weavers, who have been on a relay fast for the last 37 days demanding that the Government pay them arrears. He would express his solidarity with the handloom weavers and interact with them.

There have been 16 suicides from the weaving community in this Dharmavaram constituency alone after the TDP government came to power. Most of the deaths were caused due to mounting financial debts. The weavers are sore that the TDP government gone back on its poll promises. Chandrababu Naidu had assured the weavers of providing housing, sheds, power, waiver of loans and 1.5 lakh interest-free loans, if voted to power. However, none of these promises was fulfilled. This has pushed the weaving community into penury resulting in a spate of suicides.

YS Jagan had visited Dharmavaram in January this year as part of his Rythu Bharosa Yatra and had interacted with the handloom weavers to understand the problems dogging the famed Dharmavaram handloom industry. YS Jagan had undertaken this Yatra to console the families of farmers and handloom weavers who lost their lives due to mounting debt burden. A total of 141 farmers, sharecroppers, agricultural labourers and handloom weavers had committed suicides in the state last year.

He had also written to the TDP Government to impress upon the GST Council to withdraw 5 per cent GST on handloom products.
