Agitation Will Continue Till Special Status is Achieved, Says YS Jagan
Hyderabad: YSR Congress Party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy thanked the people of Andhra Pradesh for making the Saturday bandh call for
special status a success.
Addressing the media on Saturday, he said over five crore people opposed the BJP version on special status and strongly condemned the dual
speak of chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu as evident from the success of the bandh. “Evidently, the chief minister tried all possible methods to
thwart the bandh call. Restrictions were imposed and police were given a free hand to crush the bandh,” YS Jagan said and added that despite all the
CM’s efforts the wish of the people could not be curbed. Special status is a right of the people for the the development of the state and for creating job
opportunities, he reminded.
Regarding the three-day state assembly session, the YSRCP chief said the TDP distributed videos and photos of YSRCP MLAs climbing tables and
rushing towards the speaker’s podium. “I want to reiterate that not just climbing tables and benches, the YSRCP would question the chief minister on
special status at any venue,” he said.
The agitation for special status to the state will continue as it was a promise made in the Parliament by the BJP and TDP, YS Jagan said. In this
regard, it was the BJP which said special status is for five years and the TDP asked for ten years, he said. “However, they have conveniently forgotten
their own words and are now speaking about financial assistance,” he said while reminding that he alone cannot continue the agitation for special status
but the cooperation of the people was necessary as shown on Saturday.
YSRCP MLA Peddi Reddy, MLC Uma Reddy, MP Vijayasai Reddy were among those present at the media briefing by YS Jagan.
