Photo Of Drowned Father-Daughter On US Border Shocks World

The tragedy underlying the refugee crisis was highlighted once again by a photograph of a drowned father and his daughter lying face down in water after their failed attempt to reach the United States. The picture of the Salvadoran father with his daughter pulled into his shirt and her arm around him, went viral on social media sending shock waves.

The lifeless bodies are said to be from the US border with Mexico where Rio Grande runs. A Mexican newspaper first published the picture of the father-daughter duo, Oscar Alberto Martinez Ramirez and Valeria. Ramirez swam across the river and after putting his daughter on the river banks, went back for his wife. The child however, jumped into the water and swept away in the swirling waters.
Ramirez got to Valeria and succeeded in pulling her out, but the two were swept away by the current.
